China through the MIZPAH-scope

China - Shanghai skylineImagine looking through a giant lense that enables us to see all that matters on this planet at once and in connection.

The MIZPAH-scope.

Focus for starters on one swelling mountain of outrage:

Thar she blows  – the China versus Tibet affair: We all love condemning China for what they are doing to the good Tibetans and their spiritual leader the better Dalai Lama. China is rightly in the old doghouse and don’t they deserve it to be there especially in view of ”our” upcoming Olympic Games?

How can they dare to apply force where and whenever they see fit?

How can they bring themselves to behave like any other super power has, does and will do?

Just like the Romans or the USA or even the moral highgrounders of Europe?

Why does China do what she does without blushing and excuses?

Whether we like it or no – they do it because they can. And they can because they are so far the only super power to rise a second time to even greater might than ever before. If we carry on criticising China like we do we should stop for a moment and think. We cannot very well moan about their ways and at the same time gleefully accept their affordable products and growing important role for international economy. And we cannot cry out in protest about a behaviour the worldwide community lets other states get away with for similar behaviour only sanctioned by the UN.

There is no getting around China as the future mega power and we all may as well not only purchase Chinese goods but also arrange ourselves with their culture. They are no softies. Never were. If we want to invite them to join some Western way of thinking then this can only happen through encouragement via an inter-cultural dialogue and in good time. Moaning will get us nowhere. China is a great nation looking back on a great past.

Life in China was always hard and the methods of coping were different to our more sensitive beliefs.
That’s where some of todays’ methods stem from. Not very nice in places. Not all sustainable in our eyes. No wonder though either.

But still we are not so far away from each other.

Still there could be possibly more common ground than dividing factors.

China offers us concepts like Confucius’ Mandate of Heaven “to unify the world”.

Their philosophy wants to create virtue and harmony. That longing is one of the tough Realm of the Middles’ beautiful and approachable sides.

We should all learn to at least try to speak in one language. Difficult task. Failing that we should try to understand and speak the other side’s language if we truly care to being understood. Otherwise the message will not carry as only the bearers will comprehend the meaning. Rather useless nay?

Back to Tibet: by touching the untouchable China forced the world to protest.

But a way must be found. For the Tibetans and for the Han Chinese. That way can be found.

Another situation that would benefit from the MIZPAH way of thinking.

Has anyone thought of presenting China with Confucius’ famous golden rule to “never impose on others what you would not choose for yourself”?

Excellent notion. Very MIZPAH.
