The Melting Ice Caps of Rome
Monsignor Girotti, one of seemingly fabric softened hardliner Pope
Benedict’s closest buddies had an interesting basket of news to offer to the
world.
Freshly prepared at the Apostolic Penitentiary and dished out on an environmentally safe plate.
It’s official now :
following politicians, actors, artists and anyone
interested in getting a bit of public interest their way,
even Vatican top
brass like the Monsignor are now pitching their dwindling star to the bandwagon
of goody-goody PR.
Rome’s very own all new squeaky green mean theme machine announced [Read more]

A Pursuit of Happiness
The outstanding phrase to having the right to “Life, liberty
and the pursuit of happiness” can be found in the United States Declaration of
Independence stated as inalienable rights of man.
Is that not great and
enlightened? I’d sign that any day of the week.
The pursuit let alone finding
of happiness is a noble cause as it excludes most bad and ugly notions man is
capable of.
Who would need to run around as warmongering greedy guts if the
pursuit of happiness would keep us busy?
Perhaps that is why it is mentioned
in the Declaration of Independence?
The need for prioritisation and to try to
avoid the effects of lower instincts?
Add a positive focus? Good
idea.
But is happiness the same to all people? What consists and
constitutes of happiness? Can we define it? Let me name a few
elements:
Health and well being, our loved ones and our own?
To love and
to be loved?
Freedom to do what is right?
Ability do do what needs to be
done? [Read

Sic(k) Transit Gloria Prozac
My-my, pop goes one of the great latter day medication
legends.
After 20 years it is now all over the news and good that the
make-belief in such stuff is busted.
All those managers popping
Prozac as a lifestyle and career enhancer, to make tougher executive decisions
and do nor want to run away to mommy every now and again might have been been
under a PR – and placebo – spell?
Get outta here!
The
chemical answer to sometimes rather normal and healthy human feeling of sadness
is de-mystified finally.
Thank you! The flying pig is ready for
landing. [Read

Barack Obama – Hope Zings Eternal
Opinions and more split at Barack Obama.
Some think that he is just
a phrase basher, a well trained actor or rather empty PR
shell.
Others though (increasingly) find him inspiring, reassuring,
sign, seal and deliverer of a fresh start for the USA.
Obama comes over as a
real Zinger offering a Phoenix’ rise out of the troubled and somewhat rocked
ashes of Bushs’ America.
Sometimes change for the sake of change
alone can appear ever so vital.
And Obama spells C H A N G E , Hillary
Clinton, Mike Huckabee and John McCain don’t.
Obama is well groomed
hope made flesh and them others kinda stiff and stale political experience plus

The Real Clinton Agenda
Come-back kid Bill Clinton may have had his moments of twisted opinions
but one thing is for sure : Bill wants to move back into the White House.
As he cannot his wife has to do the trick.
And she does big time.
Hillary Clinton is a very clear and precise thinking woman, intelligent and
calculative to the T and not minding anything that could be necessary on the way
to power.
What power though?
I think that an American President
is hardly the epitomy of might as being a figurehead and a symbol but not really
in charge. How should that be possible? With all that lobbyism rife? The
president of the USA has the lead part in a blockbuster movie but is not really
involved in the script,or the production or the box office.
So is
she really going for being Commander in Chief?
Is that the real reason why
she now is even capable of improvising emotion and showing a becoming female
weakness from time to time? [Read

An Apple a day…
No matter what they say, I personally love-lovvee-love the Apple
brand.
Always have.
The products look and feel great, they always work and are intuitive enough even for a non-teccie like me if I stay securely on the surface. The company itself is as good as it gets when it comes to big multinational concerns.
But what is going on recently with the price of Apple at the stock markets?
Shares have been spiralling down more than 30%.
Why? Fear of recession?
Come on, aren’t most Apple aficionadi rather immune to downtrends and would rather save anywhere else but one of their objects of desire? [Read more]

Is Peace just a Myth?
I
don’t think so.
History has many facts in store to prove that keeping peace was and should be possible.
Example: during the Ottoman Empire Muslims and Jews were mostly coexisting in mutual respect, lived as neighbours and even conducted regular business.
It’s always the black shadow of religious and / or political fascism and extremism of any kind ruining everything for everybody. Sign of contempt and lack of compassion for fellow humans has and still is poisoning any well and history with it. What about the crimes of the Inquisition against all non Christians? [Read more]

The Credit Crunch Lifestyle
All
cool and dandy listening to the pundits on CNBC and Bloomberg or the news going
on about how the credit crisis will affect mere mortals and how the consumer and
house buyers are not gonna cope.
They can talk.
The ground they’re standing on isn’t shifting, at least not yet. Not long ago
they thought Sub-Crime-Mortgages were a nifty idea by simply repackaging “no way
Jose´” and selling the risk infested stuff to the banking and finance nerd-herd
all over the planet.
To them the crunch spells slowdown and
recession in the most abstract way, as a kind of analyst’s data, but what about
the real people?
They are confronted with at least living stagflation, rising
prices and great difficulties to get financing? [Read

The Way We Live Now
I
saw this – the credit and subprime malaise that is – and thought
of Trollope. Anthony Trollope, who wrote a timeless novel about
stupidity and speculation and called it “The Way We Live Now”, set in
the 1870s.
The plot is as crispy and actual today as it was in Victorian
days.
The old saying “if something seems too good to be true it probably isn’t” has nothing to do with it, same goes for intelligence, easily replaced (if ever there to begin with) by vulturous greed and collective blindness.
Only in the novel, the pratts who fall victim to the scheming Melmotte are totally-out-of-their-depth English Aristos who know how to kill lots of pheasants and foxes but besides nothing of the real world, longing for nothing so much as that juicy sounding promise to make money to foot their stupendous lifestyles.
