Hasta La Vista, Trans Fat!
© Helena Lind · Filed Under Features · Add your comment
California’s Governator Arnold Schwarzenegger signed a new law to
terminate trans fats in restaurants come 2010 and for all baked goods sold from
2011.
He declared: “Consuming trans fat is linked to coronary heart
disease, and today we are taking a strong step toward creating a healthier
future for California.”
New York and Oregon did it too by now
finally banning trans fat laced food even from sale in shops.
But
Arnie is the first to pass a law!
Well done.
There is this guy
from Austria who never belonged to any class system and
was never groomed to be a politician.
Arnold Schwarzenegger’s achievements
were admired but at the same time he polarised deeply and it still is cool to
look down a bit on the
ex-bodybuilder-then-Hollywood-star-now-Governor-of-California.
But
the big boy often goes where so many more should go but don’t and he does it
with a naturally born ease and determination.
He learned a lot how to do
things in his actually nearly four careers and being married to The Kennedy Clan
yet there is more to him and that is called talent!
The man has
gravitas, cojones and I add Kudos as he does not only talk the talk about
problems but walking the walk by solving them.
If you ask me Arnold
Schwarzenegger is USA President material.
Back to trans fats -they are
created when manufacturers mix vegetable oils with hydrogen.
This dirt cheap stuff reduces good cholesterol levels thereby pushing up bad cholesterol levels and so preparing the way for coronary heart disease.
It’s also linked to diabetes, cancer and of course obesity.
I need not dwell on what else is done to the body and the mind but let me
point out that these fats like sugars and chemical additives etc. create, nay
breed herds of customers for other industries and make people dependant,
energyless and…docile.
People who consume such stuff are not likely to call a
revolution.
They will be munching consumers until their arteries are clogged
and their bodies ailing and costly problem zones.
Sadly trans fat
& Co. allows cheap processed food the easiest route to market by feeding
those who cannot afford much with potentially deadly
concoctions.
High time to stop.
If not may as well
offer those other purveyors of dangerous drugs governmental grants for making
not at all too dissimilar stuff.

Another good article on an important subject.
Dear Helena,
Your article is to the point. It would only be good to have more Arnies responsible in politics.
You are right they are serving us too much bad stuff and only few stand up against industry lobbies.
Funny picture of the terminator. This is a nice Ezine, good themes and articles.
Thanks!
